GentleBrook Announces Sale of Greenhouse to Bloom Hill Farm

GentleBrook is selling its greenhouse to Bloom Hill Farm. Retail closes later this fall, and the adult day program moves to The Junction in North Canton.

GentleBrook, Inc. has announced the sale of its greenhouse to Shannon and Judd Allen, owners of Bloom Hill Farm, a local cut-flower farm based in Uniontown. The sale has been approved by the GentleBrook Board of Trustees and marks the next chapter for the greenhouse property and its retail operations.

GentleBrook will conclude retail operations at the greenhouse later this fall. The transition will allow the greenhouse property to continue serving the local community while enabling GentleBrook to focus its resources and efforts on its core mission of supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and providing senior living services.

“We are excited about what this transition means for both GentleBrook and the greenhouse,” said James Miller, CEO of GentleBrook. “The greenhouse has been an important part of our organization and our community for many years. We are grateful for the people who have helped make it successful and for the customers who have supported it. At the same time, we believe Bloom Hill Farm is a wonderful fit to carry the property forward.”

The greenhouse has played a unique role within GentleBrook, providing meaningful opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities while also operating as a retail business serving the surrounding community. Later this fall, the adult day service program currently operating at the greenhouse will relocate to The Junction, a new community hub located at 3330 State St. NW in North Canton. The new space will allow GentleBrook to expand its adult day programs while also creating additional possibilities for community involvement and growth. Notably, this location will be fully accessible and therefore able to support the needs of a broader range of individuals.

The relationship between GentleBrook and Bloom Hill Farm began when the Allens approached GentleBrook about leasing space at the greenhouse to start their seed trays, creating an early partnership that continued to grow over the years.

“This greenhouse has been part of the Bloom Hill story for the past five years, so taking ownership feels like such a natural and exciting next step for us,” said Shannon Allen, co-owner of Bloom Hill Farm. “We’re looking forward to bringing the Bloom Hill experience into the greenhouse in ways that are both beautiful and unexpected. There will be new products and new opportunities to shop and gather. We can’t wait to share what’s coming this spring!”

GentleBrook would like to thank Barb and Jerry Miller, the original owners and operators of Miller’s Greenhouse, for choosing to sell their greenhouse to GentleBrook as they looked toward a new chapter and stepping back from the day-to-day responsibilities of operating the business. Their decision created an opportunity for GentleBrook to build upon the greenhouse’s legacy while creating new opportunities for the organization’s adult day service program. GentleBrook also extends sincere appreciation to the greenhouse employees, customers, volunteers, and community members whose work and support have made the greenhouse a meaningful part of both the organization and the surrounding community.
